Leadership

flag.jpg

Josh Miller is the founder of Ephesians Defense Group, built on the principle that effective protection is preventative rather than reactive. His approach is shaped by extensive real world experience across military service, law enforcement, and executive protection, where preparation, discipline, and early threat recognition consistently stop problems before they develop.

Josh began his career in the United States Navy as a Search and Rescue Swimmer, operating in high risk maritime environments that demanded calm decision making, physical endurance, and the ability to perform under harsh and unpredictable conditions. During his time associated with the Naval Special Warfare community, he was exposed to highly demanding training environments that emphasized mental toughness, discipline, and the ability to think clearly under pressure rather than simply react. The experience reinforced a mindset built around adversity, stress control, and operating effectively when conditions are intentionally designed to be difficult.

Following his naval service, Josh transitioned into law enforcement with the Norfolk Police Department, where he gained foundational street level experience in patrol operations and critical incident response. He later attended SWAT school, further developing his ability to make sound decisions in high stress, rapidly evolving situations.

Josh went on to serve with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, where he developed advanced driving techniques, pursuit management, and rapid threat assessment skills in dynamic real world environments.

His career then expanded into executive protection and international contract security, where he supported United States Department of State protective operations through Constellis. In addition to overseas and federal contract work, he has conducted stateside executive protection operations for high profile individuals, workplace violence response and mitigation, and residential security assignments. His work has centered on proactive risk identification, situational awareness, and preventing incidents before escalation.

A former professional fighter and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt, Josh brings a pressure tested understanding of controlled force, restraint, and judgment, critical in environments where precision and proportionality matter.

Ephesians Defense Group was founded to correct a core industry failure, protection built on appearance and reaction instead of experience and foresight. Josh’s leadership is grounded in strong Christian faith and a commitment to Christ, guiding the company with integrity, humility, and service. Every operation is driven by one objective, identify and eliminate risk before it becomes danger.

Joshua Hayden

Director of Investigations & Intelligence

Joseph grew up in the rural Midwest, where resilience, self sufficiency, and accountability were part of daily life long before they were expectations. He later served four years honorably in the United States Marine Corps, operating in demanding environments that required precision, discipline, and absolute reliability. His time in the Corps was spent supporting missions where failure was not an option and attention to detail directly impacted operational success. The work was technical, unforgiving, and conducted under pressure, often in conditions where problems had to be solved immediately, without oversight and without margin for error. As a Marine, Joseph was entrusted with responsibilities that demanded calm decision making, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to perform during live operations. His role placed him around critical assets and active flight operations, where safety, timing, and execution were essential. Long hours, austere conditions, and elevated risk were routine, reinforcing a mindset built on preparation, discipline, and doing the job right the first time. These experiences shaped his ability to remain composed under stress and operate effectively in environments where most people would struggle. During his military service, Joseph began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, developing a deep respect for controlled force, leverage, and problem solving under pressure. After leaving active duty, he relocated to North Carolina to pursue advanced training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai, committing himself fully to mastering practical, real world self defense. Joseph is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with numerous tournament victories, consistently demonstrating technical dominance and the ability to perform when the stakes are high. His approach emphasizes positional control, efficiency, and decisive outcomes, skills that translate far beyond competition. Combined with Muay Thai, his capabilities reflect a complete close range fighting system built for control rather than chaos. Quiet, disciplined, and deliberate, Joseph carries the unmistakable presence of a Marine. He does not seek attention or explanation. His background, demeanor, and capability speak for themselves, making him someone you want standing next to you when things go sideways.
